2006 Bioterrorism Hospital Preparedness Program
The HRSA Grants serve as an important funding vehichle for hospitals, State Health Departments, Native Medical Clinics, and other medical providers to obtain critical back-up satellite communications for use in the event of a local emergency or disaster. How does Globalstar satisfy the emergency communications requirements set forth in the Cooperative Agreement Guidance from the US Department of Health and Human Services:
Globalstar satellite communications provides for 100% independence of the PSTN (public switched telephone network) by virture of a "Double-Hop" calling scenario from one Globalstar satellite phone to another
Only Globalstar provides for sufficient telephone capacity, giving the medical industry and First Responders the ability to make satellite voice and data calls in the event of an overloading of the PSTN and cellular communications networks
Only Globalstar provides satellite data speeds capable of Internet connections to web-browse and send e-mail in a timely fashion.
The National Bioterrorism Hospital Preparedness Program (NBHPP) enhances the ability of hospitals and health care systems to prepare for and respond to bioterrorism and other public health emergencies. Program priority areas include improving bed and personnel surge capacity, decontamination capabilities, redundant communications, pharmaceutical supplies, and supporting training, education, and exercises.
